The Full Tilt Online Poker Series more commonly referred to as FTOPS returns today for another exciting series of online poker tournaments.

The FTOPS will run over the next 12 days up until the 18th November which a total of 16 events and guaranteed prizes of over $9million in place from Full Tilt Poker.

The FTOPS has now established itself as the most anticipated quarterly online poker event and no doubt as with previous FTOPS the guarantees will be far exceeded on each tournament.

As always each tournament will be hosted by a member of Team Full Tilt who will take part in the tournament and talk to the players taking part as well as observers.

The series kicks off with a $200 No-Limit 6-max event with a $750,000 guarantee and culminates with the $500 No-Limit Main Event with a $2million guarantee. Perhaps the most interesting tournament in the series is the two day event with a $2,500 buy in.

The weekly Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guarantee had a couple of surprises on Sunday. The first was the 3,821 players that registered which is the highest the numbers have hit so far this month.

The final prize pool was $764,200 eliminating the need for the guarantee and 522 places paid with first place claiming $135,301.61.

The second surprise was seeing a Full Tilt Pro navigate his way through the huge field and end up at the final table. There were many entered in the event, Lee Watkinson finished 363rd, David Benyamine finished 324th, Keith Sexton finished 90th and Ram Vaswani finished 230th. It was former world series of poker champion Huckleberry Seed though that made it all the way to the final 9.

Though crippled when his pair of nines ran into aces, Huckleberry was not the first to leave the final table. That honor went to Tarsis, who limped with a pair of fours and three callers went to the flop. The flop brought two of the same suited cards and Tarsis’s set. He pushed all in only to be called by the flush draw that not only hit on the turn but again on the river.

Huckleberry Seed, short stacked from a previous hand was next to push. He was called by Smackgirl (who had the aces last time) and then re-raised all in by sunfish2. Smackgirl gets out the way and Seed’s K4 was heads up against A9. A flopped ace sent Huckleberry to the rail in eighth.

There are reports that several regular players at Full Tilt Poker have received emails from the security team. This email tells them that refunds will be issued after several player accounts at Full Tilt had been caught using a computer program to play for them online, commonly called “bots”. These bots were specifically playing on the Texas Holdem limit tables.

Some have reported that two suspect bot accounts were JapintheSack and BeatMe1 yet no one from Full Tilt has officially confirmed these accusations. For all the accounts that are suspected, Full Tilt Poker has frozen their accounts as well as seized all the money that was within those accounts.

There have been complaints from players about bots on Full Tilt for some time now and officially Full Tilt has denied these claims repeatedly. The number of poker players affected by this problem is estimated to be in the thousands but Full Tilt Poker has made no official announcement as of yet.

This is nothing new for online gambling and the industry. MSNBC did a story about bots and poker in 2004 written by Mike Brunker claiming it would be a significant problem for online poker to tackle, another report released in 2006 by Party Poker addressed bots and what their online poker site was doing to combat the problem.

Full Tilt Poker is not the only online poker site suspected to have problems with bots but they are the one that first this moment, caught them and are dealing with the issue.

There were just about 4,000 players registered to play in this weeks Full Tilt Poker $750,000 guaranteed No Limit Texas Holdem Poker Tournament, just surpassing the guarantee with a total prize pool of $756,800.

In the chip lead as the final table began was TAHUR5, second in chiplead, for a moment, was NCSUBODOG who was also the first to make his way from the final table to the rail with a few thousand dollars and a bad beat story to tell to anyone who will listen.

NCSUBODOG was dealt the prettiest hand in poker, a couple of aces, and had Martine23’s cowboys completely dominated, until … The river. The king of clubs was dealt and NCSUBODOG went from second in chip lead, to seriously in need of help. He went out fighting though, getting his chips into the middle with an unsuited Ace Queen. Spirit619 made the call, with Pocket Queens, leaving NCSUBODOG in need of a ace which didn’t arrive and he finished 9th place in the tournament, and a $10,141.12 prize.

In the next big hand southside1 got all his chips in the middle which As and Jh and found himself with two callers. Sugar D had King-seven of hearts, and spirit619 held a pair of sixes. The sixes hit the flop to make trips and the rest of the hand was history. Southside1 left the tournament in 8th winning $13,622.40.

Not long after, Martine23 pushed in with pocket tens, SlmPickens made the call, and busted the Pocket Pair with a flush. Martine23 finished the game in 7th place.

A few minutes later, SlmPickens was up against tens again. In this hand Slm held Ad 4c and was all in, spirit619 called with pocket tens, and Sugar D followed suit, pushing in his own chips with a pair of sixes. The tens held up, spirit619 took out two players in one shot.

Pokachump, TAHUR5 and spirit619 were the final trio of poker players. Three soon became two though, as pokachump knocked out spirit619 in 3rd. Pokachump and TAHUR5 began their heads up battle which waged for nearly twenty minutes, pokachump had the lead, TAHUR5 took it over, then pokachump took it back and so on. Then, the game rather took care of itself.

TAHUR5 flopped 2 pair, pokachump flopped the nut straight. The all in bet was made, it was called, TAHUR5 was behind, and got no help. Pokachump took down a $133,991.44 prize along with first place.

To say that Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS V was a success would be an understatement. The FTOPS stands for Full Tilt Online Poker Series and is a tournament series which guaranteed $7 million in prize money over 14 total online poker tournaments but that was just the beginning.

The FTOPS popularity far exceeded expectations with each event having huge fields and making the total prize pool more than $10.5 million. Each of the pro hosted events beat the guarantee prize money with four having a prize pool that topped $1 million.

Phil Ivey hosted Full Tilts first two day poker tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $600,000. The $2,500 buy-in shattered that total with 648 players and raising the final prize pool total to an amazing $1,620,000. In the end first place winner, Grndhg25, took home $396,900.

FTOPS V was the most successful tournament series in Full Tilt Poker history with almost 25,000 players participating in the 14 poker events as well as poker pros from Team Full Tilt, Phil Ivey, Phil Gordon, Allen Cunningham, and Clonie Gowen.

This prompted Howard Lederer to say, “The FTOPS series proves that things happen faster and bigger online. In a little over a year, the prize pools have gone up over 5-1 and we expect an even bigger series in just a few months time.”
